Safer play

Responsible Gaming

Gambling is entertainment you pay for, like a concert ticket. When it stops working that way, the tools and numbers on this page are how you take control back.

Set your deposit limit before your first deposit, not after a bad night. It takes about twenty seconds.

What we commit to

We run a business that takes money from people who mostly lose it. That fact is why the commitments below exist, and why we would rather lose a customer than keep one who is in trouble.

  • We never offer credit, and we never lend to a player.
  • We never advertise to anyone who has self-excluded or asked to stop hearing from us.
  • We never chase a lapsed player with a bonus designed to pull them back.
  • We act on a limit request immediately when it makes play safer, and only after a waiting period when it loosens.
  • We train the support desk to recognise distress and to raise it, not to sell through it.

Tools you can turn on today

All five live in your account settings. They are free, and using them does not restrict anything else.

ToolWhat it doesTakes effect
Deposit limitCaps what you can pay in per day, week or month, across every method.Lower: at once. Higher: after 24 hours.
Loss limitCaps net losses over a chosen period, regardless of how much you deposit.Lower: at once. Higher: after 24 hours.
Session reminderInterrupts play at your chosen interval with time played and net position.Immediately
Cool-offLocks the account for 24 hours to 6 weeks. Balance stays; you can still withdraw.Immediately, and cannot be reversed early.
Self-exclusionCloses access for 6 months, 1 year, 5 years or permanently.Immediately and irreversibly.
The one rule worth remembering: a limit can always come down instantly, and never goes up without a wait. That gap is deliberate — it exists so a decision made at 2am cannot be undone at 2:01.
04

How to set a deposit limit

  1. Sign in and open Account settings, then Responsible Gaming.
  2. Pick the period: daily, weekly or monthly. Weekly suits most people, because it survives a bad Saturday.
  3. Enter an amount you would be content to lose entirely, because that is what a limit assumes.
  4. Confirm. A reduction applies to the current period straight away.
  5. Check it a month later. A limit you never notice is probably set too high.

Our minimum deposit is $5 and the maximum is $5,000 per transaction, but nothing stops you capping yourself far below that. The cashier will simply refuse anything over your limit.

Eight signs worth taking seriously

One of these on its own is not a crisis. Three of them together is a pattern.

  • You go back the same day to win back what you lost.
  • You are betting money set aside for rent, bills, food or repayments.
  • You have borrowed, sold something or taken a payday loan to keep playing.
  • You hide how much you play, or lie about it when asked directly.
  • Stakes have crept up because the old ones no longer feel like anything.
  • You play to flatten stress, boredom, loneliness or anger rather than for fun.
  • Sleep, work or relationships have taken a hit and you know why.
  • You have tried to stop and could not, more than once.
06

A four-question honesty check

Answer these to yourself, not to us. There is no score and nobody sees the result.

  • If my account balance vanished tonight, what would I not be able to pay this month?
  • Who in my life does not know how much I actually play?
  • When did I last stop while I was ahead, and how did that feel?
  • Am I playing because I want to, or because I need to get something back?
If any answer made you uncomfortable, that discomfort is the useful part. Set a limit today, or call 1800 858 858 and talk it through with someone who does this all day.
07

Self-exclusion, in four layers

Each layer works on its own. Together they are hard to get around at three in the morning, which is the entire point.

  1. With us. Account settings, or ask live chat. We close access, cancel pending bonuses, pay out any real balance and stop all marketing. We cannot reopen it early, even if you ask.
  2. With BetStop. One registration at betstop.gov.au covers every licensed Australian online operator at once, for a minimum of three months.
  3. With your bank. Most Australian banks can block gambling transactions on your card from inside the app, often with a cooling-off period before the block can be lifted.
  4. On your devices. Blocking software such as Gamban or BetBlocker covers phones and computers, including sites you have not thought of yet.

And a fifth that is not technical: tell one person. Self-exclusion that nobody else knows about is the easiest kind to walk back.

08

How the maths actually works

Our lobby averages a 96% return to player. That figure is measured across millions of spins, not across your afternoon. It means the maths gives back $96 for every $100 staked over that whole population — and that the remaining $4 is how we exist.

  • Every spin is independent. A slot that has paid nothing for an hour is not due. The generator has no memory of the last round.
  • Staking systems do not beat the edge. Doubling after a loss changes how quickly you reach the table limit, not the house margin.
  • Longer sessions converge on the average. Short sessions are where the big wins live — and the big losses.
  • A near miss is a design choice. Two jackpot symbols and a blank is a loss, drawn to feel like it nearly was not.
09

Keeping under-18s out

Gambling with us is legal at 18 and not a day earlier. We verify date of birth at registration and again before a first withdrawal, and an account that turns out to belong to a minor is closed, with stakes returned and winnings void.

  • Never let a child watch you play, and never let them press the button "for luck".
  • Lock your device and never save the password in a shared browser.
  • Use family filtering — Net Nanny, Qustodio or your platform’s built-in screen-time controls.
  • Keep card details out of shared wallets and out of the family tablet.
10

If someone you love is gambling

You do not need their permission to get help for yourself. Gambling Help Online counsels family members on the same number, 1800 858 858, and Gambler’s Help runs family programmes in most states.

  • Protect the money first. Separate accounts, remove authority on shared cards, talk to a free financial counsellor on 1800 007 007.
  • Do not pay the debt off quietly. Clearing it without a plan usually funds the next round.
  • Talk about behaviour, not character. "You have been up all night three times this week" lands where "you have a problem" does not.
  • Look after yourself. Living with someone else’s gambling is exhausting, and that is worth counselling on its own.

If you believe a member of your household is gambling with us and should not be, contact us and we will act on it.

You do not have to wait until it is bad

Gambling Help Online is free, confidential and open every hour of every day on 1800 858 858. Talking to them is not a last resort, and it does not close your account.
